Santa Fe Area Fishing Report, 7/10/26

Thanks Rene and Walker for a great trip!  We've spent nearly all of the last couple of weeks on the Rio Grande and the Pecos, so this report will focus on what I've seen firsthand.

Rio Grande

The OV (Orilla Verde) section of the Rio has been off color and not fishing particularly well.  Clients have done better in the Racecourse.  There have been some large hatches in the morning of both tiny mayflies and midges, but tiny nymphs don't seem to be better than, for example, caddis nymphs.  Make sure to monitor the water temp where you are and get off the water when you see the temperature hit 67 or so.  That is happening between 11 and 12 in the Racecourse these days.

Pecos

The water is low, but it is still cold especially higher up.  Caddis dries are working well in the typical spots, and when you see tiny bugs in the air a little CDC comparadun can be deadly.  Hopper/dropper rigs are working, but I'm having more success with just dries.  

I'd put it this way--if you are going on an early morning trip, the Rio Grande is probably your best bet.  If you are going later, head to the Pecos.  Smaller streams are generally VERY low right now, though there are some exceptions.
